- Least Developed Country (LDC)
am wenigsten entwickelte Länder (früher auch als LLDC bezeichnet); von den Vereinten Nationen 1971 geprägte Bezeichnung für die am wenigsten entwickelten Länder.
- Bis 1990 erfolgte die Klassifikation nach drei Indikatoren: (1) ⇡ Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) pro Kopf der Bevölkerung in US-Dollar; (2) Anteil der industriellen Produktion am BIP; (3) Erwachsenenalphabetisierungsquote.
- Aktuell gelten folgende Kriterien: BIP pro Kopf als Drei-Jahresdurchschnitt unter 1.035 US-Dollar; Augmented Physical Quality of Life Index (APQLI): Weniger als 69; Economic Vulnerability Index (EVI): 31 oder mehr; maximale Einwohnerzahl von 75 Mio. Einwohnern.
- Im Jahr 2002 haben insgesamt 49 Länder den LDC-Status; dies entspricht ca. 10,5 Prozent der Weltbevölkerung.
